Scottish Spirits – Scotch in a Can

posted by Chris Valentine

We got Mad Dog 20/20, we got wine-in-a-box, we got Four Loko, now get ready for Scotch in a Can. It’s called Scottish Spirits and it delivers you potent Scottish whiskey in an aluminum can. That’s 12 ounces of 80% proof scotch (40% alcohol by volume) for about $5. The Orlando-based Scottish Spirits Imports emphasizes the convenience and portability of scotch in a can, which they say is distilled and matured in Scotland in oak casks for at least 3 years.

Scotch in a Can

Scottish Spirits comes in single grain or blended varieties. With each can containing about “8 shots”, it’s perfect for sporting events and passing out in the fastest time possible. As the Daily News says, a man who weights about 160 lbs who drank the whole thing in an hour would have a blood alcohol level of about .18 to .22.

One of the main complaints, of course, is that you aren’t able to close the can for later. Well, Scottish Spirits has taken care of that, too, with a new re-sealable latex cap. The lid (which currently has a patent pending), will allow for a reseal so you can drink it later.

And in case you Scotch purists are worried about it not being “real” Scotch because it comes in a can, a spokesman for the Scotch Whisky Association says that the packaging isn’t at issue:

“There is no reason why a product that is a genuine Single Grain Scotch Whisky cannot be sold in a can.”

There you have it. Scotch in a can. What will they think of next?
