Often, when we are thinking of decorating our homes, we think about how our homes would be attractive to everyone who visits it. But if you focus too much on how other people will like your home, you could be missing out on effectively making your home your own abode – something truly personal which can showcase what you’re all about. If you want to infuse your own personality in your home, you can do so with some careful design choices. Here’s how you can really showcase your personality when decorating your home.
Fashion a special ‘gallery’
One quick method of infusing personality in your home is by coming up with a special ‘gallery’. With a kind of ‘gallery’ placed on one wall, for example, you can come home to an abode that you can feel truly comfortable in and show guests your personality and preferences. Making a gallery on one wall is relatively easy – think photographs and artwork, film posters, framed quotes, tickets to concerts or plane tickets, or even patterned textiles or fabrics. Framed art is particularly popular as a gallery in one area of your home, and if you’re looking for some beautiful and unique framed art in the UK, there are plenty of choices in store.
Once you have decided on your choices, figure out how the items should be placed on the wall. The best way to do this would be to lay out all your items on the floor or table so you can have a better idea of how it will look once you’ve put it up on the wall.
Showcase your hobbies and interests
If you have any particular hobbies and interests, you should showcase them as well. Whether you like art or music or have a collection of memorabilia, place them on shelves or hang them on the walls to give your abode that unique, personal feel. Be careful, though – don’t overdo it. Rather than basing an entire room’s theme around your hobby or interest, just incorporate it into the existing design. You can still display your hobbies and interests prominently, but it’s better to do it in a subtle, less overwhelming way.
Play around with open shelves
Open shelves are also a great way for you to show off your personality. With open shelves, you can display some particular items which you love, such as travel souvenirs or mementos, books, flowers and potted plants, pictures, and so on. Just make sure the shelves aren’t too cluttered; one of the best things you can do would be to group items in a cluster and place them on one shelf, then place other groupings on another shelf. Make it more interesting by grouping items with different heights and different colours. Have fun!
