At a hospital in Bellflower, California, the eight babies were born in stable condition. This is only the second time in history that live octuplets have been born. The babies range from 1 pound 8 ounces to 3 pounds 4 ounces.
Doctors said the infants and mom were doing well. Nadya Suleman said that she wanted to make up for her dysfunctional childhood by having lots of kids. It was discovered that Nadya already has 6 other children by the same fertilization method (All children were conceived through in vitro fertilization with sperm donated by a friend). That’s 14 babies, folks!
The 8 babies were delivered about nine weeks premature, and doctors were only anticipating seven of them.
“After we got to Baby G, which is what we expected, we were surprised by the discovery of a Baby H, and that was the eighth baby that we delivered.”
The first live-born octuplets (the Chukwu octpulets), six girls and two boys, were born in Houston in 1998. One of the girls died after a week.
