Winter may be your favourite season, or it could the time of year that you dread the most, either way as one of our favourite shows always likes to remind us “winter is coming”. Every year when winter rolls around we always realise that we forgot something. Whether it’s the fact that our favourite sweater has gotten a bit too old and now we need to go buy a new overpriced one while shivering in a t-shirt, or suddenly finding out in horror that the heating is broken, or worst of all being suddenly hit with a shortage of hot cocoa.
Here are a few tips and reminders to help you make sure that you’re prepared for this winter.
Winter Clothes and gear.
Winter clothes are the most important part of surviving winter. Unless you are one of those people that can go out in shorts even if hell has frozen over you need to make sure that your clothes are up for the task. Take stock of your winter clothing before the weather gets really cold. Make sure everything fits, that it’s still good to wear, and that you have enough. If you find out that you need clothing this gives you enough time to go out and buy new clothes.
If you live in a very cold place or have recently moved to one make sure you the appropriate gear to go outdoors. You will never appreciate something as much as a good pair of gloves when it gets really cold. There’s a lot of ways to find the best cold weather gloves for you, like online retailers and sports stores.
Your heating
Finding out that your heating has suddenly given out during winter is an incredible nightmare. Before winter really sets in check all of the heating elements in your house. Ensure that they all work and get them repaired. If you have a gas heating system that you haven’t used all summer you should probably get in a specialist to maintain it before it gets too cold to make sure the system is in good repair, you don’t want both your heat and gas to fail at the same time.
Your car
If you have a car you know how hard winter can be for it. If you live in a place where you get a lot of snow and ice make sure you have snow tires or winter tires. It’s also a good time to get a motor oil change, check on the battery, and maintain the heater in your car if you have one.
Winter can be a really beautiful and serene part of the year if you make sure that you go into it prepared. If you get ready for winter in the right way you can avoid the hassle of buying overpriced clothes and sleeping in an unheated house. Instead you can shift your focus on rediscovering your love for hot drinks and finding a good book to curl up with.
