If you’re going to visit the nation’s capital, there are some things you simply can’t miss. We take a look at 5 of best things to do in D.C.
Every year, over 18 million tourists make their pilgrimage to our nation’s capital, Washington D.C., and for good reason! D.C. is a special place, filled with so much important history, unique attractions, and a one-of-a-kind atmosphere.
If you’ll be visiting soon and are looking for things to do in D.C., here are 5 of the best.
1. The National Air & Space Museum
The National Air & Space Museum is truly a first-class institution. No matter what kinds of flights you fancy, there are historical relics to marvel at. The museum houses nuclear missiles, Soviet aircraft, space satellites, and so much more.
The museum even has a public observatory that gives you crystal-clear views of the night sky (weather permitting, of course). So if you want to learn a thing or two about aviation, you’ve got to head over to the NASM.
2. The Newseum
We treasure freedom of speech in this country. This is exemplified best by our free press. If you want to reify the importance of a free press that helps keep the powerful accountable, head over to The Newseum!
This museum details the long history of news organizations throughout our nation’s history, and even houses segments of the Berlin Wall!
3. The National Zoological Park
Here in D.C., wild animals don’t only live in Congress! The National Zoological Park houses the most eclectic selection of wildlife in the country. At this zoo, you’ll find tigers, penguins, bears, and just about everything you can think of.
But the real stars of the Zoo are the two Pandas, Mei Xiang and Tian Tian, who were brought on loan from China. In their section of the Zoo, you’ll also find red pandas, sloths bears, giant salamanders, and other animals native to the Asian continent.
4. The U Street Corridor
D.C. is known for being the home of the nation’s political machinery, obviously, but we like to have fun here, too! Nighttime in D.C. is like none other.
If you’re looking for some entertainment to have some adult fun in D.C., then head on over to the U Street Corridor. You’ll find a seemingly never-ending row of incredible restaurants, bars, and clubs.
If you’re in the mood for live music, we particularly recommend heading over to the 9:30 club, the most historic venue in the entire city.
5. The National Archives
Have you ever wanted to look at the original Magna Carta? Or the gun that shot JFK? You can see all that and more if you head over to the National Archives. If something important happened in the United States, chances are that the National Archives has some sort of record of the event.
It’s an absolute must if you’re visiting D.C.
