What is Cellulite Reduction Therapy?

posted by Chris Valentine

No one likes cellulite but for most women, it’s a fact of life. It is one of the most common complaints women have with their physical appearance. Cellulite is the result of fat deposits that appear mainly on the hips, thighs, and buttocks. It has been estimated that over 90% of women aged of 20 and up, regardless of their weight or body size, have some amount of cellulite.

Cellulite typically shows after puberty and while there are many theories about how and why women get cellulite it is important to remember that cellulite is nothing more than normal fat beneath the skin. The fat appears bumpy because it pushes against connective tissue, causing the skin above it to pucker.

There are a number of products on the market that claim to help with the reduction of the appearance of cellulite. Cellulite creams typically contain caffeine which has been shown to reduce the size of fat cells, thus diminishing the look of cellulite. Dry brushing is an ancient procedure that has come back into fashion and involves a dry stiff bristled brush used against the skin to exfoliate and stimulate the lymphatic system, boosting circulation and increasing elasticity all while reducing the appearance of those pesky lumps. For more reliable and long-term results, women are turning to the newer laser and radio frequency treatments that combine heat and massage to dissolve the fat pockets and smooth them out.

The lumpy, ‘cottage cheese’ appearance can be softened and diminish in appearance with a new FDA approved Cellulite Reduction Therapy which reduces the size of the fat cells and softens the connective tissue, significantly reducing the appearance of cellulite.

Clinics around the world offer different treatments of varying success. In the United States Sono Bello is a clinic specializing in body contouring, laser lipo and cellulite reduction therapy to clients in its 30 locations.  Using the most advanced procedures with highly trained physicians, over 6,500 clients have had successful procedures.

Using vacuum suction, along with specially designed rollers, they massage and smooth out the skin and use penetrating heat and radio energy to recontour the body. The procedure increases the metabolism of stored energy, increases lymphatic drainage and makes the size of the fat cells and fat chambers smaller.

In the Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy clinical research was published that states that 90 percent of adult women treated with the cellulite treatment noticed an overall improvement in the texture of their skin.

Cellulite reduction therapy using massage techniques along with heat and radio energy feels much like a deep tissue massage. The number of treatments needed to affect change varies depending on the areas being treated and on the personal characteristics of each client. Most clients note that they see significant improvements by the fourth treatment. It is recommended that for the best results, clients begin with a weekly session.

It is important to remember that cellulite is a natural part of your body, and no therapy, in fact not even surgery, can eliminate it. Cellulite reduction therapy works to re-contours the cellulite layers, and smooths them, reducing and even eliminating the ridges or “cottage cheese” appearance of untreated cellulite.
