Graduating from high school or college? What will you do with your old textbooks?
Why throw them away or let them rot in the attic? You can earn a little cash if you know the best places to sell textbooks.
Don’t fret, you don’t have to look high and low for the best website to sell textbooks. Check out our list right here.
1. Amazon
Let’s tackle the big one first: Amazon. They offer up to 80% of the book’s original price if you decide to trade-in.
Not a fan of that option? You can sell used books here as a third-party merchant but Amazon will take a small commission when you manage to sell. They offer a small shipping credit but you’ll have to pay any extra charges.
Keep note that Amazon is working to improve the way they handle business with third-party sellers. This might make them a better option in the future.
2. BookScouter
Sure, Amazon is the most popular site but if you’re looking for the best places to sell textbooks, you shouldn’t look further than BookScouter. This is the great spot for most people.
It’s a quick process too.
Simply enter the ISBN of the book you’re selling and BookScouter will list down offers from dozens of vendors. Pick the highest bidder and you’ll get paid as soon as they receive the book. They’ll even cover the shipping fee.
3. Cash4Books
This site works similar to BookScouter except you’re selling directly to them instead of choosing from different vendors. You’ll have to enter the ISBN of the book you want to sell, ship it, and get paid in about 13 days.
Cash4Books stands out thanks to its barcode app. Download it on your smartphone and scan your book’s barcode to instantly get the details.
4. BookFinder
This site has been around 1997. They function similarly to BookScout—you’ll enter the ISBN and let BookFinder list down offers from different vendors. However, BookFinder also lists down options for people selling from Canada and the UK.
Keep in mind that BookFinder’s website is a little outdated. If you can work around the antiquated site, you might like what BookFinder offers.
5. BookByte
Looking for the best option for selling your textbooks that are no longer in great condition? BookByte accepts “good condition” and “acceptable” items. The prior refers to books with minimal wear and tear while the latter refers to books you can still read despite torn pages or damaged covers.
They pay via check, cash, or PayPal.
6. DeCluttr
One reason DeClutter stands out is the fact they buy more than old textbooks. The company also buys old smartphones, video games, CDs, and other gadgets. They’re the perfect choice for people hoping to declutter—hence the name—before moving or renovating.
7. Barnes and Noble
Did you know Barnes and Noble buys textbooks too? They’ll only accept books worth $10 and more and they only allow you to list one ISBN at a time. This can make the process a bit tedious, especially if you want to sell multiple books at once.
