Should You Clean Your Wood Furniture?

posted by Chris Valentine

Though this may seem like a silly question, it really isn’t. Unfortunately, when most of us buy a beautiful piece of wood furniture, the only cleaning we assume we’ll have to do is to dust it off from time to time. Though this may be the case for a while, there are times when special wood cleaning products are necessary. So to answer the question above, yes you should clean your wood furniture, the right way.

Why should you clean your wood furniture?

When looking at wood furniture, you’ll find that not all are created equal; some are covered in clear coats while others are not. Because of the differences in pieces available for purchase, you’ll find that not only should you clean your furniture, but you should also make sure you’re using the right products. When looking at different products available, you’ll find that Guardian Protection Products offers a wide selection, depending on what your needs are. So why should you clean your wood pieces? Because if you don’t, you’ll find that over time each piece will lose its beauty and maybe its structure.

How should you clean your wood furniture?

Essentially, you should follow the directions on the cleaning product’s box or bottle. Though you may think that you know the correct way to do things, if it differs from what the cleaning product suggests, most likely it’s not the right way to clean your furniture piece. This is why you’ll want to stick to the directions, even if they take longer than you would like. Remember, if you’re cleaning a surface, you might also need to polish it afterwards, so there are sometimes added steps involved.

How often should you clean your wood furniture?

This all depends on what you have on your furniture (knickknacks, a TV, electronics, plates and dishes, etc…) and what you use the piece for. If you use it as your entertainment center, you’ll find that you won’t have to worry so much about stains and spills as you will dust piling up. This means that though you may have to dust periodically, you won’t have to focus your time on bigger issues. If you’re using the piece as a coffee table or a dining room table, you’ll find that you may need to clean it much more often as it’s more likely to come into contact with food and drinks.

As stated above, there are times when cleaning your piece or pieces of wood furniture are very necessary in order to preserve the piece for years and years to come. The last thing you want to do is to just wipe off dirt and liquids with a paper towel and walk away. When doing this, you may be hurting the integrity of the piece and in the long run, shorting its life. Instead what you’ll want to do is make sure that you’re using the correct product when cleaning. This way you’ll find yourself with a beautiful piece of furniture more likely to last a lifetime.
