During the Smackdown debut show on Fox, The Rock kicked things by beating the hell out of Baron Corbin. But the headline event of the show was a match between WWE champion Kofi Kingston and Brock Lesnar.
In the latest smackdown results Brock defeated Kofi Kingston in just 10 seconds and was crowned the WWE champion, but just after that former UFC heavyweight champion and one of the greatest MMA athletes of all time who has a big history with Brock Lesnar, Cain Velasquez made hi-entry in WWE, he made his appearance along with WWE superstar Rey Mysterio.
Brock Lesnar had recently attacked Rey Mysterio and his son Dominick at Monday Night Raw, As soon as Velasquez made his appearance Brock was shocked to see him and tried to attack him, but Cain floored him with a double legged takedown and Brock Lesnar had to flee back to the dressing room.
Cain Velasquez is a big name in MMA, but is not well known around the professional wrestling scene, he just made his wrestling debut in Mexico. When Cain made his appearance in the WWE fans were left confused and took a moment to realize what was happening.
Back in 2010, Cain was the one who knocked out Brock Lesnar to win the UFC heavyweight championship. Velasquez was also the one who headlined UFC when it first appeared on FOX back in 2011. Cain Velasquez is often considered by many as one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time, But Cain’s career has always been hampered by injuries and stopped him from achieving great success in the UFC.
Back in August Cain Velasquez made his professional wrestling debut, he appeared in the Mexican promotion Lucha Libre AAA. Fan’s were not left disappointed as Cain impressed everyone with his in-ring ability.
Cain Velasquez has yet to sign a contract with the WWE, negotiations are still going on. As soon as Cain signs for the WWE a feud between him and Brock is the first thing that will be on the cards, it seems like a storyline including these two for the WWE championship is what we will get.
Whatever the storyline is, it would be interesting to see two great fighters go against each other in the WWE ring. However, it was speculated that the two superstars might face each other at Crown Jewel, which is now looking like a distant possibility as Velasquez is suffering from a knee injury and could have to get the surgery done which would push back their clash to Wrestlemania next year.
According to the latest WWE News Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer said “They could do Cain ( vs Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania 36) you know to do a one and one, Cain gets the surgery and comes back, but if Cain gets the surgery I’m not sure he’s back. If he gets full reconstructive surgery on that knee…let’s say he gets it in November, he’s missing Mania for sure, not even a chance. Maybe he can get minor surgery and be back.’
