5 Sights to Visit in Trapani, Sicily

Beautifully situated on a peninsula at the foot of Monte Erice, Trapani in Sicily is a historic and lively port and a gem worth visiting.

Carthaginians made it to a naval port at the start of the First Punic War. The Romans took it later, where it languished in obscurity but thrived afterward in the hands of Saracene.

In contrast with narrow streets in the old town, the new town in Trapani Sicily is among the biggest public spaces.

So if you have plans to tour Sicily, Trapani needs to make it to your itinerary. This way, you will be able to enjoy the following sights, which are always worth a see.

    1. Salt Pans of Trapani and Paceco

The Salt Pans of Trapani and Paceco along the road to Marsala is characterized by marshes and lagoons with shallow water, which ranges between 50 cm and 2 meters in terms of depth.

The reserves also include four islands of Santa Maria, Mozia (San Pantaleo), Schola, and Isola Grande within the Marsala area.

These reserves are normally open to tourists and visitors alike. You may find a reception area with details at Mulino Maria Stella at the provincial road running from Trapani to Marsala.

    1. Beaches

Among the popular beaches in Trapani, Sicily includes San Giuliano, San Vito lo Capo, and San Teodoro in Marsala, all offering water sports like kitesurfing or kiteboarding. San Giuliano is around 2.6km away from the Trapani center. It is also a spacious coastline with golden sand and crystal turquoise water – meaning you don’t require special shoes.

San Vito lo Capo is also a spacious beach around 40km away from Trapani. Being an enchanting place, it attracts tourists who pick it as their destination for holidays.

But if you are looking for a place to have a sunbath on windy days, you will need to consider San Teodoro in Marsala. In front of you, there is a turquoise shoal and a complete view of the kiting spot.

    1. Erice Village

This is a medieval village, which is rich in history and traditions. Walking along the streets of this village will give you a chance to see a lot of features, making it unique, particularly by its urban aspect improved by buildings with narrow alleys and cobbled streets. While in this village, you shouldn’t miss out to taste:

    • Mustazzoli
    • Crunchy biscuits
    • Riposto sweets
    • Erice’s Genoese
    1. Isole dello Stagnone and Mothia Island

Mothia, founded on the island of San Pantaleo, is located at the center of a big lagoon referred to as Stagnone (big pond). Because of where it is located, it is favorable to maritime trade and for tourists to tour.

On the other hand, Isole dello Stagnone, taking the name from the biggest pond – Stagnone is characterized by shallow waters, ranging from one to two meters.

    1. Zingaro Nature Reserve

The Zingaro reserve is among the admired natural gems in Trapani, Sicily. In this reserve, you will experience the sea as it used to be centuries ago.

From afar, the reserve looks somehow stark because trees are a rarity. Plus, the humid climate makes it possible for more than 660 different species to survive here.

    In Conclusion!

Trapani has established flourishing economic activities associated with Bluefin tuna fishing, marble exportation, and salt trade & extraction for many years.

Tucked also with interesting museums, beaches, reserves, islands, and streets, Trapani is a great spot for tourists to tour, especially those looking to kitesurf and have a thrilling adventure.
