10 Fun Facts About Love Everyone Should Know

That feeling of falling in love is the best, isn’t it?

It’s why people get married and commit to spending their lives together. It’s why people do crazy things, like jump on couches.

How much do you really know about love? You probably don’t know as much as you think.

Check out these interesting facts about love and learn a thing or two.

    1. There Are Animals That Mate for Life

You might have heard from the cheaters that humans aren’t meant to mate for life. That’s it’s just not natural.

Well, you might want to tell them that there are plenty of examples of animals that mate for life. Seahorses, geese, barn owls, penguins, and bald eagles are just a few species that mate for life.

    2. Love Can Be a Drug

Roxy Music sang about love being a drug in the late 1970s. The chemicals that appear when you’re intensely in love have a similar effect as cocaine.

It’s been shown to reduce pain like cocaine and other drugs.

Even snuggling can release oxytocin, which is the chemical that makes you happy. You don’t need to buy it over the counter, just find someone to cuddle with.

    3. Hugging Is Good for You

Cuddling is good for you, and so is hugging. That’s probably one of the most underrated impacts of the COVD-19 pandemic. Since we can’t really hug, we miss out on an opportunity to feel better.

Hugging reduces the amount of cortisol in the bloodstream. It’s a hormone that’s related to stress.

If you hug someone for 20 seconds, oxytocin is released. This is the happy chemical, but it also lowers anxiety and blood pressure.

    4. People Fall in Love About Four Times

How many great loves do you have in your life? In a survey of 2,000 people in 2012, researchers found that the average person falls in love four times in the course of their life.

What does that mean for you? You should make falling in love count because you don’t know how many times it’s going to happen again.

    5. Singles Can Be Happy, Too

If you’re single, it can be hard to read something like this and not think about what’s missing from your life. Here’s the secret to being happy: be social.

Studies have shown that unmarried people are happy, but they’re happy because they’re more social than married people.

    6. Intense Synchronization in Love

Here’s something really intense about being in love. You can synchronize your heartbeat with that of your lover by staring into their eyes.

Never mind your heart skipping a beat, your heart can beat at the same time! Research shows that it takes about 3 minutes for two people in love and in a bonded relationship to synchronize heartbeats.

This is pretty intense, but you have to take into account that the study does have a couple of flaws. The first is that it only looked at 32 couples. The second is that they only looked at heterosexual couples.

    7. Valentine’s Day Is Expensive

Love is always celebrated on February 14. Valentine’s Day is the day when 144 million cards are exchanged. In 2018, the average person spent about $140 on gifts and cards.

Some people buy gift cards, jewelry, and gift for their pets. It’s the perfect day to celebrate love, but if you’re on a budget, you need to find creative ways to express your love without spending money.

Here are a few ideas. You can write a poem to your sweetheart. Take a stunning photo with your phone and have it printed and framed. You can create a piece of art and give it to them.

TrueLoveWords.com has a few ideas that you can use for inspiration.

    8. The Truth About Lovebirds

Let’s talk about lovebirds for a moment. Did you know that lovebirds are a type of parrot? They’re actually among the smallest parrots, ranging between 5-7 inches.

Lovebirds are social and very active birds. Many people suggest that they need to be kept in pairs or they’ll get depressed and act out.

There is some truth to that. If you’re looking for a lovebird to keep you company and bond with, you’re better off getting a single bird. If you have two birds, they’ll bond with each other and ignore you.

You need to be prepared to keep your lovebird entertained if you decide to keep a single bird.

    9. Gender Fluidity Isn’t New

Since the doors blew open for the LGBTQ+ community, people are finding new ways to express gender. Some prefer specific pronouns.

You might be confused by all of this, but the fact is that gender fluidity isn’t new. Ancient cultures have had some form of gender fluidity.

A great example is in Hawaiian culture. Transgender people have been embraced for a long time. The term mahu is a third gender or an expression of self that lies between traditional male and female genders.

    10. People Marry for Love

A recent study by Pew Research dug into love and marriage. The study uncovered a few interesting facts. About 88% of Americans marry for love.

When you dig deeper, there are some other interesting facts. For example, 71% of people think it’s important for the husband to be a good financial provider. Only a third of people think that it’s important for a woman to be a good financial provider be a good wife.

Fun Facts About Love and Life

Did you learn a thing or two about love? If you learned anything in this article, it’s that you really can’t explain love. It’s a feeling that causes a chemical reaction that is so strong, you don’t feel anything but elation.
