A topless coffee shop in Maine is now shopless after a fire, but waitresses are serving coffee again. The Grand View Coffee Shop returned to business this week in a tent, but the waitresses are covering up. On Tuesday, amid gloomy weather, they were sporting sweat shirts instead of the bikini tops they’d been wearing the day before.

The shop was a hit, according to CNN:

Crabtree hired 10 women and five men under stringent requirements, including friendliness and, what he considered most important, that the wait staff “treat everyone equally.” “We didn’t hire ’10s,’ ” he said, referring to appearance. “We hired everyone from skinny to big-boned women.”

Elvis Thompson of Brunswick, for example, was a line cook at a restaurant before he lost his job. “They couldn’t afford me anymore,” he said. He said he doesn’t mind fielding interesting requests from customers. “An 80-year-old woman told me she wanted to see me in spandex,” Thompson said. “I just feel really lucky to have a job. I need the money so I can pay my rent.” The coffee shop jobs are paying off. One waitress received a $100 tip for a cup of coffee, and most of the wait staff make about $30 a table.

A Maine man has been charged with operating under the influence after he and a friend made a beer run on a riding lawn mower. Police say 51-year-old Danforth Ross of Vassalboro was charged May 29. Trooper Joe Chretien had been flagged down by several motorists warning of a wayward mower and made the arrest after Ross and his friend emerged from a variety store with two cases of beer. Ross’ driver’s license had been revoked, so the pair opted for the lawn mower.

He should do community service – how about mowing public lawns?
