A court in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia is punishing a female victim of gang rape with 200 lashes and six months in jail, a newspaper reported on Thursday. The 19-year-old woman — whose six armed attackers have been sentenced to jail terms — was initially ordered to undergo 90 lashes for “being in the car of an unrelated male at the time of the rape,” the Arab News reported.
But in a new verdict issued after Saudi Arabia’s Higher Judicial Council ordered a retrial, the court in the eastern town of Al-Qatif more than doubled the number of lashes to 200.
There. That’s better.
A court source told the English-language Arab News that the judges had decided to punish the woman further for “her attempt to aggravate and influence the judiciary through the media.”
Last year, the court sentenced six Saudi men to between one and five years in jail for the rape as well as ordering lashes for the victim, a member of the minority Shiite community. But the woman’s lawyer Abdul Rahman al-Lahem appealed, arguing that the punishments were too lenient in a country where the offence can carry the death penalty. In the new verdict issued on Wednesday, the Al-Qatif court also toughened the sentences against the six men to between two and nine years in prison.
King Abdullah last month approved a new body of laws regulating the judicial system in Saudi Arabia, which rules on the basis of sharia, or Islamic law.

God, I can’t even be fucking clever about this. This just makes me sick and very, very angry.
Any Arabian men reading this right now, I would like you to know that I think you should go fuck yourselves and then throw yourself off a cliff =]. It will be for the betterment of the world. In fact, how about just all muslim men. And yes, I am a WOMAN.
“Women” in all circumstances is dependant on their male counterparts for the sake of security whether he is her son, husband, guardian or any other relative. If she is harmed by anybody, assaulted or raped , it is not her fault instead it is the fault of her guardian/son/husband/relative and surely of government also who is unable to provide security to its people. Therefore on moral grounds, anybody who is punishable for such crimes is guardians/hubands/sons and government. If government or judges lashes the victim instead it means they are coward people who is afraid of assailant that if they (authorities) take any action against the invaders of security of people, the (invaders) would rape / kill them (authorities) too. Therefore due to fear they opt to punish the victim itself.
Though I dont want to comment on any custom of any region, world is so vast and vivid. Let ppl follow their customs and rulings. If anybody has resentment he/she should protest against discrimination without expecting other ppl to cooperate with him/her.
The real religious people do not comment on each and everything happening in the world and calmly do efforts for their own enlightenment. Beacuse all living being are getting what they have sown. Yet some times out of pity for common living beings the religious people choose to say something.
Thinking impartially, they (authorities & judges) are also the invaders who had gained access to political powers. Some of their counterparts are working undergrounds, some are working in militant groups and some are working on political position covering theirselves under the mask of guards of people.
However , not to say much……..this is world ….it is going on its own terms for since the time immemorial……let me shut up and think about my own empowerment and enlightenment…
