Hillary Rodham Clinton will concede Tuesday night that Barack Obama has the delegates to secure the Democratic nomination, campaign officials said, effectively ending her bid to be the nation’s first female president. Obama is 40 delegates shy of clinching the nomination, but he is widely expected to make up the difference Tuesday with superdelegate support and votes in South Dakota and Montana. Once he reaches the magic number of 2,118, Clinton will acknowledge that he has secured the necessary delegates to be the nominee. The former first lady will stop short of formally suspending or ending her race in her speech in New York City.
More good news: Bill Clinton says “This may be the last day I’m ever involved in a campaign of this kind.” (from CNN Political Ticker). Oh please let it be so!
Well, the Clinton nightmare is over, anyway. A new one begins shortly, one involving Obamaman and McSame.
Sen. Hillary Clinton’s is “absolutely not” prepared to concede the race for the Democratic presidential nomination to Sen. Barack Obama, her campaign chairman said. Terry McAuliffe rejected as “100 percent” incorrect an Associated Press report that Clinton is preparing to acknowledge that Obama has the delegates to win the nomination Tuesday night as the five-month Democratic primary process comes to a close. Obama “doesn’t have the numbers today, and until someone has the numbers the race goes on,” McAuliffe told CNN.
Hillary Rodham Clinton has told congressional colleagues she would be open to becoming Barack Obama’s vice presidential nominee, saying she would consider it if it would help Democrats win the White House.
My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don’t understand it,” she said, dismissing calls to drop out.
We know Hillary probably didn’t imply that Obama could be assassinated. Technically, she’s correct. We mean, a meteor could fall on Obama, McCain’s plane could crash into a volcano. Sure, these things could happen. But to bring it up seems in poor taste.
Besides being connected to an extra-marital affair like the Clintons, Spitzer happens to be a superdelegate who has pledged himself to Hillary. To Hillary, these superdelegates are like 5 big diamonds!
Of course, that may be in doubt as the Republicans are threating to impeach him if he doesn’t resign.
Tedisco said if Spitzer does not resign according to a deadline that’s been imposed, state Republican leadership will call for impeachment proceedings to begin. Spitzer, though, was clearly examining his legal options Monday night; a spokesman said the governor had retained the Manhattan law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind Wharton & Garrison, one of the nation’s most prominent. The news of Spitzer’s alleged transgression set off one of the largest scandals in modern New York state political history.
Hillary knows how to deal with dudes like Spitz! She’s done it before.
Then he uses her quote “This is a new day. This is a new state.” to try to imply … what? That she want’s a “new order”? Or is she just saying “new state” as in “New Hampshire”?
“Iowa does not have the best track record in determining who the parties nominate. Everybody knows that,” she told reporters after a brief photo-op at a cafe here.
“I was never the frontrunner of any significance in Iowa,” Clinton said.
Oh yeah, Bill O’Reilly crashes Obama and Hillary’s party!!
The incident was triggered when O’Reilly–with a Fox News crew shooting–was screaming at Obama National Trip Director Marvin Nicholson “Move” so he could get Obama’s attention, according to several eyewitnesses. “O’Reilly was yelling at him, yelling at his face,” a photographer shooting the scene said.
O’Reilly grabbed Nicholson’s arm and shoved him, another eyewitness said. Nicholson, who is 6′8, said O’Reilly called him “low class.” “He grabbed me with both his hands here,” Nicholson said, gesturing to his left arm and O’Reilly “started shoving me.” Nicholson said, ” He was pretty upset. He was yelling at me.”
An armed man has taken two campaign workers hostage at the Hillary Clinton campaign office in Rochester, police said. Officials with the campaign confirmed that there were two workers taken hostage in the office on 28 North Main St.. A woman and her baby told workers at a neighboring business that she was released by the hostage-taker.
“A young woman with a 6-month or 8-month-old infant came rushing into the store just in tears, and she said, ‘You need to call 911. A man has just walked into the Clinton office, opened his coat and showed us a bomb strapped to his chest with duct tape,’” witness Lettie Tzizik said.
Witnesses described the man as in his 40s with salt-and-pepper hair. Nearby businesses have been evacuated, and the St. Elizabeth Seton School has been locked down.
“There are sharp shooters on the roof, and police are negotiating with someone in the building,” said another witness, who did not want to be identified. “The police are notifying all the business owners on the street to evacuate. There are fire trucks behind the Hillary Clinton office.”
WNBC-TV in New York quoted an unidentified law enforcement source as saying the man wanted to speak with Clinton.
Clinton, who is not in New Hampshire, was attending a National Democratic Committee meeting in Virginia. DNC Chairman Howard Dean just announced Sen. Hillary Clinton won’t speak because of the hostage crisis.
Two hostages were released at about 3 p.m. ABC News reported that the hostage-taker was an older male who was well-known locally and has a history of mental illness who told his son today to “watch the new.”
A man was taken into custody after he kneeled on the ground outside the office and police placed handcuffs on him. Moments earlier, a young man believed to be the third and final hostage was released.
A friend of the family said that the man thought that there was a government conspiracy and that government officials were “coming after him.”
