How to Prevent Excess Weight Gain

posted by Chris Valentine

Many of us want to look our best, and not all of us want to include excess weight as part of that ideal. Aside from making it more difficult to find fashionable clothes that fit, excess weight can cause a number of other problems. For instance, it’s often associated with an assortment of health problems as it can increase your risk for a number of issues, such as heart disease, strokes, and even pregnancy complications. And it can make moving around a chore.

To avoid the worst of excess weight gain, consider the following suggestions.

Tell your doctor about your weight loss plans.

Before you even start planning out how you’ll lose weight, talk to your doctor. There are numerous ways to lose weight, but not all of them are healthy. And your doctor should be able to help you figure out a plan that is healthy and works best for you and your body.

If your weight happens to be a particularly significant issue, your doctor might be able to offer you medical treatments alongside your everyday weight loss activities. Depending on the severity of your excess weight, treatments might include the use of weight loss medication like orlistat, which you can order online at an affordable international and Canadian pharmacy service.

Enrich your diet.

Part of a healthy weight loss plan includes eating healthily. A diet full of the right nutrients and proper meal portions will ensure you don’t overeat or gain excess weight. And it should enhance how well your body functions and looks.

But how do you come up with a healthy diet?

Well, for a start, your healthy diet should include the following:

  • An emphasis on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and close-to-fat-free milk
  • Proteins, such as lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts
  • Few to no fats of any kind

Start exercising.

In addition to dieting, you should think about starting a fitness routine. Getting active will help you lose weight and is said to even improve your mental health. So get out of the house and enjoy the fresh air as you exercise!

Remember to start slow, though. If you haven’t been active much or at all lately, it’ll take some time for your body to get used to exerting itself.

To help gradually increase your exercise, start by walking every day. You don’t have to necessarily make time for this new activity in your life. Instead, just modify your current routine a bit. Consider using the stairs instead of the elevator. Maybe even walk completely or partway to work from transit.

Eventually, you’ll develop enough stamina and muscle to exercise more intensely, and throughout it all, you should be able to maintain a stable, healthy weight.

Change your lifestyle.

Lastly, reduce how many sedentary activities fill up your day. For instance, avoid sitting still for long periods at home. Still want to watch TV? Try doing so while working on another activity like cleaning or yoga stretches. But what about when you’re at work? Consider asking your employer for a sit-stand desk so you can handle your office projects while standing or sitting. This will add some much-needed movement to your daily work schedule.

An active lifestyle like this will further reduce your weight gain. And in combination with a healthy weight loss plan and a nutrient-rich diet, it should make sure your excess weight is no longer a burden to you.
