Kanesa Hopkins: Excellent at Math, Jesus, and perhaps a few other things…

You gotta hand it to 31 year old math teacher Kanesa Hopkins. Not only is she a kindly Sunday school teacher, but she was also named Teacher of the Year by her peers at Westview Middle School. Yes, Kanesa was well respected by all.

That is, until she was accused of having sex with a teenage girl that she taught in Sunday school. Apparently, it happened a few years ago when the girl was about 14. And it happened at Hopkins’ place and the girl’s place.

Hopkins is currently in jail on five sex-related charges. Hopkins also faces one count of criminal sexual conduct with a minor in nearby North Charleston, where she previously lived.

Hopkins was confronted in 2002 about the amount of time she was spending with the girl by the church, which was not named in the affidavit. There was no other mention of the church in the sworn statement.
