Without a doubt, New York City is one of the top destinations in the world for most travelers.  There is no shortage of things to do and see and you could easily stay busy for a week or more at a break-neck pace.  But what if you are just passing through, and have a only a day in this world-class city?  With so many choices, it may seem imposible to decide what to do with such limited time, but here are a few suggestions for a great one-day whirl-wind itinerary in New York City.

Empire State Building: Virtually every New York City itinerary includes a trip to the Empire State Building, and with good reason.  A visit to the observatory deck provides some of the best views of Manhattan and the water and the bird’s eye view of the city is a great way to get your bearings as you set out on your day.  At busy times you may find line-ups for the elevator, so try to arrive early.

The Ride: There are so many iconic buildings, statues, neighborhoods and landmarks to see and of course one day is not enough time to really explore the sights of New York City.  If your goal is to see as much as you can and to really enjoy the spectacle of New York, then The Ride is a great option.  Part tour bus, part interactive theatre, The Ride is a 90 minute tour of some of the most famous landmarks and neighborhoods.

The Met: The Metropolitan Museum of Art is a must-see, and is one of the most visited museums in the world. Whether you are an art enthusiast or a casual observer, you are sure to be impressed by the Museum’s collections of art from different periods and places.

Carmine’s on 44th:  After a busy day, tuck in for a family-style Italian dinner at this New York institution.  Carmine’s is famous for its southern Italian dishes including antipasto, pasta, seafood and meat dishes.  It gets rave reviews for service and atmosphere as well, and is located in the middle of the always-bustling Times Square.

Broadway: From Carmine’s you can easily walk to some of the best shows in the Theatre District so why not cap off your day in New York City with an evening of world-class entertainment on Broadway?  With old favorites like the Phanton of the Opera or classics-in-the-making like School of Rock or Kinky Boots, there is sure to be something to suit everyone’s tastes.  Tickets can be easily purchased in advance at broadway.showtickets.com, very often for perfomances ont he same day.

There you have it!  Of course, however you decide to spend your one-day visit to New York City, you are sure to have a great time – and to be inspired to return soon!
