3 Reasons Whale Watching Makes for a Great Family Day

posted by Chris Valentine

So, you’ve been contemplating what would make for a great family day experience.

For many families, the idea of a day together can be both good and bad.

On the plus side, it is quality time with the ones you love. On the other side, how can everyone come to a consensus on what to do with that time?

That said you want to find an activity everyone in the party will enjoy doing.

Taking to the Ocean

With that in mind, would whale watching tours in California interest your family?

Whether you live in California or will be visiting, whale watching can be fun for several reasons.

First, you get to see some of the most amazing mammals up close.

One of the special things with whales is few humans see them on a regular basis. As such, they provide some mystery to most people. By going on a whale watching tour, you can view these creatures in their natural habitat.

Not only are you having a fun time out on a boat, but you are educating yourself and your kids on whales.

Second, being out in the water can have a calming effect for many people.

Yes, you might get the occasional rough wave or two, but that is not going to be the norm. Being out on the ocean and seeing all the beauty around you can make you leave your troubles behind for the day.

If you’ve never been out in the ocean other than sticking your feet in or a short swim, take the necessary gear.

Among the things you should have with you:

  • Comfortable shoes – Even though you will not be doing a lot of walking, you may be standing and moving around. As a result, have comfortable footwear.
  • Jacket – While the weather might be warm onshore, it can be a different story once out on the water. This is especially true if the sun goes in and the wind picks up. With that in mind, have a jacket with you.
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses – As anyone who has been out on a boat can tell you; not having sunscreen can be a big mistake. Also make sure you have sunglasses with you to protect your eyes from the glare.

Third, there’s nowhere for anyone to go once out on a boat together.

If you are searching for some family bonding time, whale watching can be the perfect activity to do.

Remember, the goal of a great day together is to have fun and spend that all-important time together.

Between work and school and countless other things, it can be hard to get all together.

In the event whale watching is on your upcoming family calendar, be sure to get the most out of the experience.

Before you know it, the day will be over and you will head back to shore. When this happens, it is time to sit back and think about the fun time everyone had.

Oh, and it may also be time to begin planning the next family day event.
