Girl Sues School District After Sex With Teacher Jaymee Wallace

Wharton High School Student Sues District For Failing To Protect Her

From the Miami Herald:

A former student who had sex with her Wharton High School teacher (in Hillsborough county) is suing the school district for failing to protect her. The lawsuit alleges the school didn’t properly investigate Jaymee Wallace before her hiring and didn’t immediately tell the girl’s parents when it discovered the relationship. Wallace taught the girl math and coached her in basketball.

In 2007, the girl asked the court not to put Jaymee Wallace in jail, but the her parents insisted. Wallace was sentenced to 3 years in prison and 3 years probation after pleading guilty to lewd and lascivious battery and unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

At the time, there was some controversy, because another woman, former Greco Middle School teacher Debra Lafave, got 3 years of house arrest and 7 years probation after pleading guilty to having sex with a 14-year-old boy. In comparison, Wallace’s relationship was with a 15 year old girl.
(Warning: cliched Fox-news phrase “some people say” coming up).
Some people say Lafave got off easier because she’s blonde, and not a lesbian.
