Virginia Tech:
Gunman kills 32 students, then himself
This has become the deadliest shooting rampage in United States history.
Wielding two pistols, the gunman opened fire about 7:15 a.m. at West Ambler Johnston, a coed dormitory, then stormed Norris Hall, a classroom building on the other side of the 2,600-acre campus, chaining the doors behind him to keep anyone from escaping. Two people died in a dorm room, and 31 others were killed in Norris Hall, including the gunman, who put a bullet in his head. At least 26 people were hurt, some seriously.
Apparently, they are unable to identify the gunman because he had no ID, and he shot himself in the head.
What I don’t understand, and I’m sure many will be asking this, is why, after the first shooting, VT President Charles Steger didn’t put the whole campus on lockdown. Apparently, nobody heard about the incident unless they checked their emails - some two hours
later, right around the time the gunman began his second rampage in Norris Hall!

STEGER COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS - TWO hours. I hope he has the decency to step down - he failed the students.
My wife was in Holden (the building next to Norris) when the shooting spree began. I can’t tell you how scared I was. I couldn’t get through to her for awhile as the news was unfolding. I feel so bad for the family of those who were lost today. If it was the random choice of a building, it could’ve easily have been Holden.
The word is being spread around campus to wear maroon and orange in memory of the victims of today’s tragic incident.

He was said to have quarrelled in a dormitory with his girlfriend, whom he believed had been seeing another man. A student adviser was called to sort out the row. But the killer produced a gun and shot dead both his girlfriend and the adviser.Two hours later he
rampaged through an engineering building on the other side of the campus in the town of Blacksburg, killing indiscriminately.

Authorities were investigating whether the gunman who killed 32 people on the Virginia Tech campus in the deadliest shooting rampage in U.S. history was a Chinese man who arrived in the United States last year on a student visa. The 24-year-old man arrived in San
Francisco on United Airlines on Aug. 7 on a visa issued in Shanghai, the source said. Investigators have not linked him to any terrorist groups, the source said. Police believe three bomb threats on the campus last week may have been attempts by the man to test the campus’ security response, the source said. The exits to the buildings where the shootings occurred were chained by the shooter, the source said.
