Teacher Jennifer Leigh Manuell Suspended After Accusations Of Sex With Student:
MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. — A Brevard County teacher was suspended after being accused of having sex with a student. The woman who led the junior varsity cheerleading squad and taught physics at Edgewood Junior/Senior School is off the job and under investigation.
The investigation is ongoing and charges have yet to be filed.
Officials took the school’s junior varisty cheerleading coach and physics teacher out of the classroom while they investigate a reported sexual relationship with an underage student. At the high school, Tuesday, classmates of the young man called the relationship with Jennifer Leigh-Manuell an open secret.
Leigh-Manuell, 25, has been at the school two years and makes about $35,000 a year. Sources with knowledge of the investigation said the sheriff’s office started looking into Manuell because of an anonymous tip and the school has suspended her with pay.
… the 17-year-old was in one of Leigh-Manuell’s classes. Parents of students at the school were informed of the allegations via a recorded phone message, Local 6 News reported.
Leigh-Manuell also coaches junior varsity cheerleading, according to the Web site. According to the school’s Web site, Leigh-Manuell graduated with two bachelor degrees, in physics and space science with an emphasis on astronomy and astrophysics in 2003, and a master’s degree in teaching from Florida Institute of Technology.

Ms. Leigh Manuell is the sweetest teacher I’ve had at Edgewood. She’s caring, helpful, and always energetic. You guys don’t even know her.
How about some of the men teachers that flirt with the underage girls at Edgewood? I’m a parent who has observed it first hand and find it disgusting. The administration must choose to look the other way.
the administration is really who is to blame. ms. leigh-manuell was given several warnings and the administration had known about the relationship since december. unfortunately, this will not reflect badly on mr. ken winn, the principal. this is not the first teacher at edgewood to be accused of having relations with a student and just like anonymous2 said, edgewood administration has been told about other inappropriate behavior from teachers such as former math teacher marc bowen, and nothing has been done. good job winn

Shain Honkonen doesn’t have the guts to do the nasty with a sexy teacher. I wouldn’t be surprized if he has never had sex at all. This was just a stupid rumor. and if this was really a “inapropriae relationship” I would of known. I KNOW EVERYTHING. I have met this teacher, she sonyl 23, and she is very nice, but this is just UNBELIVEABLE PEOPLE!
I feel that the case and situation should have personally been overlooked a while
back if it has been going on since December. They should have checked into real
evidence and got the actual results before assuming what could have possibly
went on. I know both the teacher and student very well, and find it hard to
believe that what was said really went on. I see it as the student broke up with
his long time girlfriend, and she was mad, spread rumors, and everyone pieced
the puzzle in the wrong way. The student is very friendly to teachers and peers,
as well as the lead singer in his band. I agree with Sam Lib that Shane would
never do something like that, and as well as Leigh Manuells reputation i do not
believe that it is fair. The situation needed to be thourough before it was released.
I also feel that Edgewood should have never been turned into a Jr/Sr high, there
too many frustrations and lack of sports. The school has a graduation class of like
10, and as you can see there are several issues, and that tends to happen in
smaller schools than larger population schools. small schools get too personal.

This article is bullshit, everyone knows this was all a rumor started by a jealous ex-girlfriend and her mother. I was in her class during my junior year in high school. Three days into the year, my father died. Barely even knowing me, she took time out of her busy schedule of grading papers and coaching cheer leading and drove over an hour each way to come to the service. Not the principal, or the dean, or the resource officer – my physics teacher. This is just one of the many things that testify to her good character. Ms. Leigh-Manuell has such a big heart and life has been less than fair to her. Edgewood’s a crooked, shifty school with corrupt administration, such as “Dr.” Winn, Christopher Browning, and Deborah King, just to name a few. This is almost a year later, and the issue has died down. But what no-one realizes is that this poor woman is now jobless after investing so much time into becoming a teacher. She can never hold a job as a teacher again. Thanks, Edgewood, for being the crusher of dreams. (Although I have to say, the replacement teacher they gave us for the last quarter was FINE! Like, imagine an A&F model teaching you physics…yeah, that good.)

For the love of god why does this sound bad to anyone ? if it were my kid having sex with that teacher I would drop all charges , specialy because of the age difference and the fact that he is almost a legal adult , leave the teacher alone…
Edgewood is a pitiful excuse of a school. Ms. Leigh-Manuell was one of the few people that actually enriched the educational environment of the school. Edgewood has far worse problems then silly rumors that were taken too far and ruined someone’s hard earned career. Most of the problems that “Edgewood Jr/Sr Public School of Choice” has are due to the terrible administration that cheat and conspire the system and cover their own tracts. Some examples of this are how the principle “Dr.” Ken Winn and vice-principle “Dr.” Deborah King acquired their doctorate degrees online, and had the Media Center Specialist of Edgewood complete their written assignments for the degrees. If such trash is allowed to call themselves the “leaders” of our current educational institutions, Then I don’t see much reason in believing lies and rumors that are indorsed by that very trash.
I myself have suffered 5 years of this school, and from the inside, Edgewood Jr/Sr High School is one of the WORST schools currently operating in the area.
Like a few other people on here, I am a former student of Edgewood Jr./Sr. High School. I was a JV cheerleader at this time and although I had some problems with Coach Leigh-Mannuel myself, they were very minor compared to the issues I have had with the head administration; i.e. “Dr.” Winn, Neleffra Marshall, dean Browning every guidance counselor they ever had and that french bitch, just to name a few. The only people I ever found tolerable there were Mrs. Lyle and….. yep that’s it. Recently I have reached the final straw with these people after withdrawing from the school, then literally the day after, coming back and humiliating myself by telling “Dr.” Winn that I made a mistake and asked if I could come back only to be told that my spot was already filled. So I waited a year and I was placed 2nd on the waiting list and I know for a fact that six people have left my grade level, yet he(Mr.Winn) decided that he would put 50 or so seventh grader in the school and not allow me to come back. This school and all of its staff and faculty members, excluding the one mentioned earlier, are corrupt. My advice to anyone considering coming here, sending their kid here, or wondering if they should leave. Run as far as you can from Edgewood and never look back! THIS SCHOOL SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN!(just a suggestion considering budget cuts and all.)
Well, I am the “jealous ex-girlfriend” that a few of you have referred to me as. Three years later this whole situation still has an impact on my life. My boyfriend of three years cheated on me with his physics teacher. Lauren, I have always been very nice to you and we were great friends at one point. My mother was seen at the school several weeks before Jenny got “arrested” because my mom didn’t want me to have her as a teacher my junior year. We were never questioned by the police, and I was actually the one who broke up with Shain about two months before she got questioned or anything. So I was not the source of any rumors, you all have done that yourselves. I just didn’t understand why they couldn’t contain themselves and wait until after he graduated. Everything would have been fine then. So thank you for all the hurt. And P.S. they were turned in by another teacher who saw them holding hands one day after he was getting “tutored” so if you don’t have any real facts and if you weren’t on the inside then don’t waste people’s time with lies.

And no shit a situation would have an impact on your life, but you can still get a job can’t you? You didn’t and probably still don’t have to feel the pain and humiliation of a publicized over-exaggerated alleged affair with a student? Your fiance of however long didn’t just leave you suddenly and once a student/familyfriend comforted you over the situation, get accused of having sex with the student and completely lose your job and maim your reputation?
Do you really think that your history and reputation of being a typical bitchy-gossipy-little girl throughout high school would magically disappear and seem to not support that you pulled the “jealous ex-girlfriend” move?
(By the way, the questions are rhetorical. Must be sure you’re aware of this, considering I don’t know how far you go intellectually after having to withstand your ever-so-long presentation/essay of why the freaking avian flu made you so emotional as a controversial subject back in school)
Honestly, I wasn’t even the craziest for Ms. Leigh-Manuell–kind hearted and all, but just not my type of person really; but she didn’t deserve what you released on her at all.
